KPMG Online School Banner

KPMG is committed to the well-being of our communities and constantly evaluates ways in which it remains responsive to societal needs within its means and abilities. KPMG is also committed to a culture of life-long learning, in respect of both technical matters and the development of the individual.

According to the feedback received from some of our social partners, KPMG has the opportunity to use its privilege and endowment of professional skills for the development of human capital in South African communities. As a response, we are establishing a KPMG Online School for Communities whereby, through our Colleague Volunteering Programme, KPMG will provide online training to various groups – NPOs and Civil Society Organisations, SMMEs, Schools, Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDs) and Tertiary Students.

This training catalogue outlines a wide range of learning and development opportunities that will be provided through this online platform. We believe that such training support will positively contribute towards human development and the strengthening of institutions for critical societal work that they do.

Why KPMG online school?

KPMG is a skills dependent organisation and therefore relies on talent and skills to sustain its business. As such, KPMG believes in Education and Lifelong learning as a lifeblood for its own organisation and the wider economy. We believe that empowering communities with the right skills supports prosperity and resilience, which contribute to positive well-being in society.

Benefits

  • Communities are empowered with skills that support social and economic inclusion and prosperity.
  • Improved economic and social well-being (opportunity-dependent)
  • Improved social cohesion from improved proximity of various groups
What are we planning to do and for whom?

Introductory IFRS 17 training for non-executive directors

 With IFRS 17: Insurance Contacts (IFRS 17) effective for year ends commencing on or after

1 January 2023, there are just a few weeks to go before the standard is live! This is an opportune time for non-executive directors of insurance companies to solidify their understanding of the core principles of IFRS 17 ahead of the go-live date.

We would like to provide you with the opportunity to join us for two training sessions which will cover the following topics:

Session 1

An introductory training session covering the basic and core principles of IFRS 17. This session is aimed at those individuals with limited to no knowledge of the IFRS 17 standard where we will explain the basic IFRS 17 principles from a zero base.

Session 2

In this session we will build on the basic principles of the standard and address advanced topics such as areas of judgment, estimation uncertainty and well as current industry implementation challenges.

 Topics to be covered in each session

 Each of the sessions will cover the following topics, with the second session covering more complex matters:

  • IFRS 17 concepts, including terminology;
  • IFRS 17 comparison with IFRS 4;
  • Financial statements under IFRS 17;
  • Implementation, progress and challenges within the South African market; and
  • Areas of focus as a non-executive director.
